The School opened in 1962, Linganore High School Junior-Senior High School was built to serve the eastern section of Frederick, Maryland, Lake Linganoreincluding New Market, Libertytown, Mount Pleasant, Kemptown, Johnsville, Monrovia and Bartonsville. The first class graduated in 1963. For nearly 20 years, Linganore served students in grades 7-12. Eventually middle schools were opened to serve students in grades 6-8 and Linganore then became Linganore High School, educating students in grades 9-12. In its lifetime, the original school building had 3 additions, first in 1972 and then again in both 1983 and 1985.

The original building was razed in 2008 to allow for the construction of the current school building, which was dedicated on August 12, 2010 and opened for the first day of the 2010-2011 school year. Linganore high school once held 8,500 students until the year of 2010. Frederick county was redistricted due to the population size of students at Linganore.

The High School is noted for it’s large number of advanced placement classes, along with a high pass rate for those classes. “The Lance” is the school newspaper, available online. Homes for sale in Linganore High School district include a large area, with single-family homes, estates, farms, townhouses and condominiums available.

Lake Linganore, a 210-acre lake, is the largest privately owned lake in the state. Linganore Creek is a 13.5-mile-long tributary of the Monocacy River in Frederick County, Maryland. The stream is formed from the junction of the north and south forks of the Linganore, about 10 miles east-northeast of the city of Frederick. The creek runs roughly southwest to the Monocacy River, which drains to the Potomac River. The watershed area of the creek is 83.1 square miles.

Lake Linganore is the principal source of drinking water for the city. It is also a drinking water source for the central portion of Frederick County.
