Coming next year (projected to be the first half of 2020) is an exciting new small development on 6th Street in the Historic District, downtown Frederick. Moore’s Row – Four new construction townhomes are in the planning stages. The townhomes will be the traditional 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home, with a third floor and 2 car detached garage. This is the latest exciting infill development in downtown Frederick.
Chris and I attended a reception last week with several Realtors® and representatives from the developers and builders to see the plans for the project. Greenbench Development Company, with commercial projects throughout Maryland, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia, are developing Moore’s Row. They have worked with other small residential projects in several other cities…almost like a passion project, if you ask me. 😊
The following image shows the front elevation that has been approved by the Frederick Historic Commission. They have a couple more steps in the approval process before they begin work on the townhouses.
The company has recently renovated the right unit of the duplex next to the proposed townhouses, 230 E. 6th Street. We toured the renovated home and were very impressed with the craftsmanship and level of detail of the work. The high-end finishes and appliances, as well as the design was beautiful. I think the passion for this small project shows. 😊

The builders did a great job of making the home modern and convenient without sacrificing the historic charm. They salvaged as much of the original house as they could, including the brick fireplace, original wood floors, exposed brick walls, and wooden mantles over many of the doors. Likewise, they’ve carved out several delightful nooks and crannies throughout. You’ll see exposed beams, and great industrial details that tell the historic story of the house.
We’re looking forward to seeing the quality of the new construction homes, given what we’ve seen in this renovation! Check out some of the listing photos below.

Older Federal style homes in downtown Frederick often have the awkward situation of the pass through bedrooms that were common in that time. This renovation dealt with it with a smart lounge area in the middle of the second floor. So, you have one bedroom in front, and one in back with a sitting area between, almost like a second floor family room.
Incidentally, the design detail that is my particular favorite is the kitchen counters. The granite was installed with the underside up, producing a very cool industrial leather look. The weathered looking glass backsplash is a perfect fit, as well.
This renovation is impeccable, full of thoughtful use and details. The home comes in at just about 2000 square feet.
Additionally, the backyard has been thoughtfully landscaped, with a sunken patio, ideal for grilling, and a paved walkway to the detached garage. The garage has access on Laboring Sons Alley.
